Maroota Historic Site (Devil's Rock) – Marramarra National Park

Near Wisemans Ferry, about 60km north west of Sydney, along Laughtondale Gully Rd. Access to Maroota Historic Site is restricted to Aboriginal people and approved educational groups to protect the Aboriginal engravings.

Maroota Historic Site protects one of the most significant Aboriginal rock carvings in Australia. It contains over 60 engravings, 20 grinding grooves and the unique engraving of a sailing ship with a figure which is probably that of a European woman.

The site is separated from Marramarra National Park by Laughtondale Road, which forms one boundary of the site. On other sides it adjoins Crown land and private property. It covers an area of 32.62 hectares.

Devil's Rock in Maroota Historic Site is listed on the Register of the National Estate for its Aboriginal art.

The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife purchased Devil’s Rock in 1983 to protect the Aboriginal art and engravings.
