From 2008 the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife has been providing funds to the Sydney Harbour North Area Parks & Wildlife Group (a branch of the NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change & Water) to work on natural and cultural heritage projects, and to upgrade volunteer facilities in the northern area of Sydney Harbour National Park.

Funds provide for natural and cultural heritage projects, and increase the volunteering capacity of the Middle Head site.

With these funds, a structural assessment of the WW1 Observation post at Middle Head was undertaken - ensuring the safe future of an amazing piece of Australia's cultural heritage.

Highly degraded bushland areas of Sydney Harbour National Park were regenerated by contract workers and volunteers because of the grant. A number of volunteer facilities were also upgraded.

These programs increase the involvement of community and corporate volunteer groups in implementing the weed management program for Sydney Harbour North area and in particular Middle Head.

Sydney Harbour National Park North hosts Corporate Volunteer groups from Westpac, the Salvation Army and other companies.

Staff who volunteer get the chance to help restore the precious bushland habitat of native animals, while taking in fantastic views across Sydney Harbour. They also get the opportunity to learn about plants and native wildlife with the help of a Park Ranger, tour the Middle Head fortifications, get their hands dirty planting trees or pulling weeds, and have a fantastic day out of the office with their team mates.

Organisations who organise Corporate Volunteering days find it a great staff motivator, a highly social day for the staff which allows them to help out the community and environment, and provides a fantastic way to engage staff in conservation of Australia's natural and cultural heritage, and the organisation's response to climate change.
