From April 2008, the Parks & Wildlife group of the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage received Foundation funding of $30,000 for conservation works in the Dhurug National Park.

These funds helped to protect World Heritage listed, convict-constructed Old Great North Road. Protection of original cobblestones evident in some sections of the road preserves it as part of Australia’s cultural heritage.

Timber post and rail fences were installed to prevent mountain bikes from dislodging individual cobblestones as they traverse the road, and fencing was installed to divert walkers and mountain bikers around the sections of original cobblestones on the surface of the Old Great North Road.

These funds also allowed for the installation of a water tank and fittings at the Ten Mile Hollow Camping Area to provide water for walkers and mountain bikers.
