Get more enjoyment from our native plants & animals

kookaburra-cartoon_smHave you ever enjoyed sitting in your backyard watching small birds search for insects in the grass? Maybe you have discovered a blue tongue lizard in your garden or been amazed by the number and colour of birds that flock to a bottlebrush flower, or watched a possum ‘walk the tight-rope’ along your back fence at dusk?

If you have, then you know how lucky we are in Australia to share our daily lives with some of the world’s most beautiful native animals and plants. It is a special quality of living in our towns, cities and suburbs that is second to none in the world. The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife is running a free program to help you get even more enjoyment from the native animals in your area. It’s called Backyard Buddies.

As a Backyard Buddy, you will receive a monthly Bmail which tells you about native Australian animal and plant species you're likely to see in your backyard or local area.

Bmail is completely free. You can subscribe to Bmail by clicking the link. It gives tips on how to make your garden a safe and friendly place for animals to visit. It's great for kids, school groups and adults looking to make their yards more environmentally friendly spaces.

You can also join the Backyard Buddies online community at http://www.facebook.com/backyardbuddies - post your photos and stories of native animals, enter competitions to win a free buddy, book or other prize, and keep up to date on our projects and bad jokes.
