Native
plants for Barrenjoey |

In our gardening and weeding section we encourage the planting of native species. Local native plants have been tested over the years by Mother Nature and have proven themselves. They are the best choice for a wildlife-friendly, low-maintenance, low-cost garden for several reasons.
Foundation volunteers spent one Saturday in September at Barrenjoey Lighthouse, Palm Beach, gaining hands-on experience in the handling of native species of Sydney’s coastal region. Besides planting more than 220 seedlings of two types of native grasses, we explored the lighthouse and the cottage, the Barrenjoey Headland tracks and had lunch with great views of Palm Beach. The planting day was part of our Barrenjoey Heritage Landscaping project. Read all about the progress in our previous Summer, Autumn and Winter 2004 issues. If you feel like putting on those walking boots and gardening gloves for a fun day in the sun call Mr Watt on 9451 3479 and leave your name and contact phone number or contact the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife on 02 9221 1949. |
