“I first got
involved with the Foundation in the late 1980s. I was invited to work
with the Sydney Committee, a group of ladies located in the Eastern Suburbs
who wanted to support the Foundation by raising money and spreading awareness.
At that time, the community
was stirring into action to protect our wonderful bushland and species
of flora and fauna. Having a committee of different personalities worked
well for us, as some ladies organised social functions; others informative
lectures; and others walking tours through the parks. We all enjoyed each
other’s efforts, and felt that we were contributing successfully,
and reaching different parts of society.”
I JOINED
THE FOUNDATION’S BOARD BECAUSE…
I would like to work even more productively to promote the aims of the
Foundation. I had met several of the people I would be working with. I
admired them and I thought we should work well together.
BEING A DIRECTOR
OF THE FOUNDATION IS…
a wonderful opportunity to support a fantastic endeavour.
AS A DIRECTOR
I LOOK MOST FORWARD TO…
Having a role, or working on a project. The challenges I expect are many,
such as where to focus. There is so much that could be done; and the list
gets longer daily.
THE CHALLENGE
I WANT TO TACKLE AS A DIRECTOR IS…
To increase the community's awareness of the Foundation and encourage
more support. Protection of our natural and cultural heritage is not only
imperative to our survival, but this defines our national identity. The
bonuses in tourist revenue are massive. Australians are also enjoying
the outdoors in greater numbers, and the Foundation is increasing the
size and number of our Parks, and also their amenities, making them more
attractive to visit.
THE MOST
URGENT CONSERVATION ISSUE IN AUSTRALIA IS…
water. We need to value this resource more than we are at the moment.
FUNDRAISING
IS …
essential. The government cannot fund the huge costs involved, and readily
turns its focus to other pressing concerns. The community needs to show
its commitment, such as with donations, and this nudges the government
into further support.
MY VISION
FOR THE FOUNDATION IS…
that its work will never finish! All of us are part of a long line of
caring Australians who will continue to care for this unique heritage.
