Libby Liggins 2011 Marine Science Grant Winner

Brisbane resident, Libby Liggins was recently announced as the winner of a $7,000 science grant from the conservation organisation, the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife.

Each year the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife and the Humane Society International each offer a Marine Science Grant of up to $7,000 to support research of Australian marine ecosystems. The Paddy Pallin Foundation offers a sister Science Grant of up to $7,000 to support field-based, high-quality ecological research each year.

Trees for Koalas

Mary White and her Gondwana Tree Sanctuary

100x100marywhiteThe Falls Forest Retreat - described as "a Gondwana rainforest sanctuary" is at John's River, nestled at the foot of Middle Brother mountain, a major Hastings/Camden Haven/Manning landmark.

Dr Mary E. White, who is a paleobotanist, a specialist in pre-historic plants and their environment, bought the 200 acre property in 2003 and has covenanted a large proportion of it to preserve its vegetation for all time.

Gould's Petrel Mural

100x100gouldpetrelmuralMyall River Art Walk team is keen to mount a mural at Bennetts Beach to pay tribute to the Gould petrel birds that live on nearby Cabbage Tree Island. Backed by the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife, scientists undertook a sustained recovery program during the mid-90s that has rescued the birds from the brink of extinction.

AFTER the success of the children's ceramic mural on the swimming pool wall at Tea Gardens, the Myall River Art Walk team is keen to mount another one at Bennetts Beach.

Save Our Rare Alpine Possums

Together, we raised more than $100,000, which will go towards saving one of Australia's most threatened mammals, the Mountain Pygmy-Possum.
