AFTER the success of the children's ceramic mural on the swimming pool wall at Tea Gardens, the Myall River Art Walk team is keen to mount another one at Bennetts Beach.
Great Lakes Council has given the okay for the mural to be mounted on the brick wall near the beach and the group is looking to apply for a grant to cover costs.
The mural is already designed and is a tribute to the Gould petrel birds that live on the nearby Cabbage Tree Island.
"Cabbage Tree Island is the only place in the world that these birds breed and they were becoming endangered," Leigh Allen of Myall River Art Walk said.
Backed by the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife, scientists undertook a sustained recovery program during the mid-90s that has rescued the birds from the brink of extinction.
"To memorialise this story we wanted to make something to beautify the brick wall," Mrs Allen said.
The mural will consist of three or four mild steel panels cut out in reverse silhouettes of cabbage tree island and the Gould petrel's flying.
"Strong young people" willing to help prepare the bricks for the steel mural are being sought. If interested, contact Mrs Allen on 4997 9313.
