Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve Ramsar site is 60km north of Armidale. It is one of the few remaining high-altitude freshwater lagoons on basalt soil in the New England Tablelands of New South Wales. This wetland supports significant communities of waterbirds, as well as mammals, amphibians and reptiles.

Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve is home to many native animal species including bats, possums, and land birds. Raptors, such as brown falcons, nankeen kestrels, swamp harriers, boobook owls, and white-breasted sea eagles, are common.

Bird watching is popular and there is an easy 4.8 km walking track around the lagoon with good vantage points from which to see the water birds. Signs explain the importance of this habitat.
