In 2010 Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife received a 12.31 hectare property to donate to the National Reserve System. It was valued at $550,000.
The property contains two Endangered Ecological Communities - Swamp Sclerophyll Forest on Coastal Floodplains of the NSW North Coast, Sydney Basin and South East Corner bioregions; and Freshwater Wetlands on Coastal Floodplains of the NSW North Coast, Sydney Basin and South East Corner bioregions.
Five threatened fauna species are on the site, all of which are listed as vulnerable under the Threatened Species Conservation Act: Koala, Grey-headed Flying-fox, Glossy Black-Cockatoo, Osprey and Wallum Froglet. The habitat of these species is now protected.
The Foundation gifted the land to the people of Australia, through the NSW Department for Environment, Climate Change and Water (which is today called the Office of Environment & Heritage).
This property was added to the adjacent Bongil Bongil National Park in the Upper North Coast of NSW, to be protected in perpetuity.
The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife is the only organisation in Australia whose philanthropy is an investment in our public estate, for all to enjoy. There are tax incentives for landholders donating land but the real value is the growth of our national parks and the protection this gives to our many plants and animals cared for under their management.
