It is part of the World Heritage listed Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves of Australia (CERRA). Washpool is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia - a chain of more than 50 rainforest reserves along north-east New South Wales and south-east Queensland.
The Gondwana Rainforest parks protect areas of the remaining sub-tropical rainforest in the world, large areas of warm temperate rainforest, and almost all of Australia's remaining Antarctic Beech cool temperate rainforest.
Its ancient and isolated rainforests are home to a great variety of plants and animals.

Growing Washpool National Park
The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife acquired 1,191 ha of wilderness land near Tenterfield for Washpool National Park, enabling dedication of around 150 hectares of identified wilderness.
